The background of some of the Late Nite Big Band members is impressive and varied: 


The Late Nite Big Bands Founder and leader Paul Mole’s career and love of music began in high school. Paul continues to provide the real vision and direction for the band even though we lost him after his battle with cancer. Paul was a busy man running at the time Simi Valley ’s oldest restaurant which hosted banquets, service club meetings and weddings every week of the year. He owned a music instrument repair business handling instruments from pro’s in the business to students from throughout the area. As a member of the US Marine Corps, Paul  also served 1967-68 in the Vietnam War in a special operations combat unit with 38 separate missions in Southeast Asia . He was seriously wounded on his 38th mission and returned to states to recuperate for months in a military hospital.  Paul passed away from pancreatic Cancer in April of 2008.  The band is now lead by Late Nite Big Band saxophone player Joe Gray.



Bonnie Bowden ( Vocals )  Bonnie’s first professional singing job was at Six Flags Over Texas.  Moving to California, she landed a solo position at Disneyland on the Sound Castle Stage in Tomorrowland.  From there she joined Sergio Mendes and toured the world many times over with Brasil 77 and Brasil 88.  Her TV credits include several appearances on Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Dinah Shore and the Midnight Special. Throughout her career she has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of music and entertainment legends.  Among them are Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stevie Wonder, Hubert Laws, Dori Caymmi, Dave Grusin, Steve Allen, The Mills Brothers, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gormé, Robert Klein, Pete Barbutti, Sergio Mendes and her husband guitarist David Amaro.


Bill A. Jones ( Vocals )  As a singer, Bill has opened for Steve Tyrell, and had the honor of opening for Tony Bennett at the St. Jude's Children’s Hospital 50th Anniversary Gala at The Beverly Hilton.  In the past, Bill toured with The Glenn Miller Orchestra.  Bill swings the great standards in the tradition of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble` & others, typically with the backing of a full Big Band.  His latest CD, I’ve Heard That Song, Big Band Songbook, was recently released on to high acclaim.

Jones is also an in demand emcee and singer.  In addition to “Glee,” Bill was seen on “CSI: New York” as the Donald Trump-inspired character, ‘Richard Kemp.’  Additionally, Bill has been seen on “The King Of Queens,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Las Vegas,” “Criminal Minds, and other shows. Bill has been featured in TV campaigns for FedEx, Crest Toothpaste, Nissan, American Airlines & others. On film, Bill co-starred with Al Pacino in Simone, and starred in the acclaimed short, The Morning Guy.


Susan Kay Wyatt ( Vocals ) is a richly diverse performer, songwriter, and motivational speaker. The many voices of her music include inspirational, children’s motivational music, and most recently a return to jazz standards, which fit her like a glove. Originally from Northern Ohio, Susan Kay has been performing since the age of 4. With a broad vocal range, her voice is often described as angelic and soothing and yet she is also well known for her jazz savvy, funky licks, and powerful high notes. Some vocal influences you can hear in her contemporary pop work are Karen Carpenter, Melissa Manchester, Amy Grant, Sheryl Crow … Her jazz influences are Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, Natalie Cole, Nancy Wilson, Rosemary Clooney. . .and she includes musical theatre greats Julie Andrews and Bernadette Peters. 

Ned Rifken ( Vocal )     Over the past 15 years Ned has performed and been associated with well-known studio musicians who have been associated with almost every iconic music organization in the 20th Century. These mentors of all ages have worked with the likes of Brian Setzer, The Manhattan Transfer, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Henry Mancini, Nelson Riddle, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Barry Manilow, Rod Stewart and many more.  Ned has been the lead male vocalist with the best studio musicians in Hollywood with the following: Late Nite Big Band, Randy Van Horne's Alumni Association, Johnny Vana's Alumni Band, Decades - Rock Tribute Band, Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights, Bill Webster's Unabridged Big Band, Tim Davies Big Band, Geo Valle's Swing City, Paul McDonald's Big Band, Rex Merriweather's Not Your Father's Big Band and the Conejo Pops Orchestra.


Terry Landry ( Sax ) is a 34 year veteran alto sax player perfoming with the who’s who of modern music. Terry grew up in Colorado and began his musical career in the Rocky Mountain state.  He entered   North Texas State University to study music. The university is well known as the “grooming ground” for many of the nation’s top studio musicians. He came to California in 1987 to pursue his professional career touring, recording, and appearing with leading recording stars including:  Jack Mack and the Heart Attack, Billy Vera and the Beaters, Luis Miguel, Stevie Wonder, The Dixie Chicks, Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Patti LaBelle, Frankie Valli, Lou Rawls, Frankie Avalon, Gerald Wilson, Celia Cruz, and Bobby Womack. His work with the Dixie Chicks included the No.1 record in May 2006 "Taking the Long Way".

Anne King  (Trumpet)  has also performed with the big bands of Frank Sinatra Jr., Les Hooper, Roger Neumann, Don Menza, Ray Anthony, Buddy Childers, and Buddy Collette. She has also performed with a wide variety of artists, including: Eric Benet, Shirley Bassey, Guns N’ Roses (World Tour 1991-1993) Steven Tyler, Lenny Kravitz, Ray Charles, James Ingram, Stevie Wonder, Ronnie Milsap,  Michael McDonald, The Brothers Johnson, Temptations, Four Tops, Martha Reeves, Cheyenne, Celia Cruz, Don Henley, Lou Bega (2000 World Tour) and Spinal Tap. Among the artists Anne has recorded with include: Take 6, Scott Henderson, Sheena Easton, k.d. lang, Mary’s Danish, Sponge, Poe, Carl Hancock, Warren G, Kid Ramos, Finis Tasby, Buddy Collette (2001 Grammy nominated) and Jennifer Lopez. Eric Jorgenson (Trombone) is a native of Los Angeles, is a dynamic soloist in constant demand by those who appreciate his strong & unique style.  Movie credits include "Rush Hour 2", "Crocodile Dundee in L.A.", and "A League of Their Own".  TV work encompasses "American Idol", "TMZ", and "The Bonnie Hunt Show".  He has participated in recordings by Bette Midler, Dwight Yoakam, the O'Jays, and Paula Abdul, and has performed live with Aretha Franklin, Don Henley, Natalie Cole, Al Jarreau, Doc Severinsen, Johnny Mathis, and Poncho Sanchez.  He can be seen on YouTube with various artists, including Cecilia Noel & the Wild Clams, and Son Mayor.


Alejandro Carballo ( Trombone ) was born in Tampico, Mexico, music and art have been a part of his spirit for as long as he can remember. At a very young age, he began playing the trombone and piano, which led him to study music and art and complete his PhD in music at the University of Tamaulipas. Realizing his deep passion for art, he decided to move to Mexico City to pursue his dreams at the Academy of San Carlos. It was also in Mexico City where he crafted his musical abilities. He was able to play trombone for some of the most internationally acclaimed artists. Alejandro parlayed his musical experiences into an opportunity to play with international superstar, Luis Miguel. Some 17 years later, Alejandro continues to tour internationally with the Grammy Award winning group taking his place as the Musical Director for the brass section and performing trombone live.


Joe Gray ( Sax-Leader) is an alumnus of California State University Northridge Music Department.  Upon graduating with a B.A in Music he played in many horn bands of the time and did studio work.  He was a member of the elite Hollywood Horns, The Vic Asher Band and the popular Los Angeles Band Smoothwater ( Jesse Gomez ) along with his own band Mom’s Apple Pie.  He has since played with many of Los Angeles ’ Big Bands for the past 26 years.  Joe is now besides a saxophone player in the band also the leader and manager of The Late Nite Big Band and Late Nite Small Big Band.

John Smith ( Bass ) was a member of Si Zentner band one year and three albums, Stan Kenton one year and one album.  Harry James 4 years toured internationally and Newport Jazz festival.  Toured internationally with Woody Herman, Johnny Mathis one year, Shirley MacClaine-4 years two network and one HBO special and an extended run at the Gershwin theater on Broadway and Andy Williams -14 years.  Also toured nationally off and on with John Klemmer and Gabor Szabo. Other artists he has toured with in no particular order, Pat and Debby Boone[Europe, Japan, Australia & US] Vicki Carr[US and Mexico] Dinah Shore, Peter Allen,Susan Anton and Lorna Luft and Helen Reddy. John is an exceptional bass player and a extremely important asset to our band.

Paul McDonald ( Piano ) Composer, Arranger, Musical Director and Pianist Paul McDonald has been a professional musician for 35 years and in that time has performed all over the world. Born and educated in England he worked in London for over ten years as a session pianist and arranger. Paul’s arrangements and compositions were featured regularly on BBC Radio where he also worked with the BBC Radio Big band and Orchestra for six years. In 1989 Paul left to become Musical Director for some the Director for some of the World’s premier Cruise lines including Star Cruises in Singapore and Holland America Line. Paul moved to Los Angeles in 2000 and has been here ever since working as a composer, arranger and pianist. He has also written and arranged music for Warner Bros, Fox TV and a host of Independent movies. He continues to write music for the cruise ship industry and his music is featured regularly on Holland America line, Celebrity Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Crystal Cruise Line. The debut album of the Paul McDonald jazz quartet was released in the spring of 2010. In addition his own 17 piece big band performs regularly around Southern California and Las Vegas to mostly sold-out audiences. He also guest conductor and arranger for the Palm Desert Symphony Orchestra Paul continues to be in demand as arranger for numerous singers and performers around the world.


Steve Pemberton ( Drums ) has gained an international reputation as an incredibly versatile and sensitive musician Most recently Steve performed with the prestigious Boston Pops Orchestra working with film composer and conductor John Williams. Prior to his three-year association with the Pops,Prominent jazz artists that Steve has performed, recorded and/or toured with include Mel Torme, Grover Washington, Jr., Doc Severinsen, the Count Basie and Quincy Jones Orchestras, John Pizzarelli, and the New York Voices. He has also collaborated with artists as diverse as Patti Austin, Jeffrey Osborne, Diahann Carroll, Vic Damone, Ray Charles, Johnny Mathis, Melissa Manchester, the Canadian Brass, Marvin Hamlisch, the Swingle Singers, Skitch Henderson, Kathie Lee Gifford, Frankie Avalon, Shirley Jones, Jerry Vale, Maureen McGovern, Peabo Bryson, Crystal Gayle, Amy Grant, Vince Gill, Nell Carter, Margaret Whiting, Byron Stripling, Pattie Darcy Jones, The Smothers Brothers and even The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. TV credits include performances on HBO, CBS, ABC, A&E and PBS, in addition to many jingles and TV/radio spots. In addition, Mr. Pemberton has also had the privilege of performing at the White House for Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.   


Lance Rickman ( Sax )  is a veteran sax player in the Los Angeles area. He is an alumnus of Cal State Northridge music department. Lance is a versitile musician who regularly plays a variety of instruments including soprano, alto and tenor saxes, clarinet, flute and piccolo. His musical accomplishments include performing with many best known artists such as, Tony Bennett, Cab Calloway, Charo, Al Martino, Jerry Vale, Diane Shuur and Nancy Wilson. Recently, Lance played on the Jay Leno 'Tonight Show' and 'Good Morning America' with American Idol winner Taylor Hicks. In 2005, Lance played on the 'Tonight Show' with American Idol runnerup Bo Bice.

Rob Sack ( Trumpet ) is a veteran trumpet player from Agoura Hills who has played with the greats too like Harry James and Alvino Rey. Rob began his 42 year career with a bachelor of music  degree from the highly respected music program at California  State  University in Northridge.
